Healthcare Provider Guide
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has emerged as a powerful complementary treatment supporting elite healthcare providers across the Bay Area in achieving exceptional patient outcomes. Leading physicians, surgeons, and dentists incorporate HBOT as part of their comprehensive treatment protocols, with referrals now common in major medical centers from San Francisco to New York.
Why Consider HBOT for Your Patients?
Evidence-based results
Extensive clinical research demonstrates HBOT's effectiveness across multiple specialties. Review our specialty-specific documentation to explore applications relevant to your practice.
Enhanced patient satisfaction
Incorporating proven complementary treatments like HBOT can improve overall treatment outcomes and strengthen patient retention.
Safe and well-established
HBOT maintains an excellent safety profile with minimal contraindications, distinguishing it from many pharmaceutical interventions. It is FDA-approved, frequently covered by insurance, and recognized as a standard treatment modality by leading medical institutions and peer-reviewed literature.
Seamless integration with your practice
As an outpatient facility providing medical-grade hyperbaric oxygen therapy, we serve as an extension of your practice. HBOT complements your existing treatment protocols, enhancing their effectiveness while maintaining your primary care relationship. Our goal at Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy of Marin: Advanced Hyperbaric Recovery is to support you in optimizing patient outcomes through evidence-based complementary care.

Hyperbaric Oxygenation Effects on Blood Flow
Effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen on Blood Flow Normal Blood Oxygenation
Blood carries oxygen throughout the body via a sophisticated transport system. When we breathe, oxygen from the atmosphere (21%) is absorbed by the lungs and binds to hemoglobin in red blood cells. These oxygenated cells are transported through blood vessels via plasma, allowing oxygen to diffuse into surrounding tissues based on metabolic demand.
Restricted blood flow (ischemia) causes Hypoxia
When blood flow is restricted due to surgery, illness, or injury, red blood cells obstruct vessels and prevent oxygen delivery to surrounding tissues. This obstruction leads to swelling and oxygen deprivation (hypoxia), which triggers apoptosisβa programmed cell death process where damaged nerve cells cluster together. Apoptosis impairs the body's natural repair mechanisms and releases inhibitory proteins that cause further deterioration in the brain and spinal cord. This process, observed in all neurodegenerative disorders, creates a destructive cycle that ultimately results in neuronal death.
Hyperbaric Oxygenation
Under pressurized conditions, breathing 100% pure medical oxygen allows it to dissolve into blood plasma at higher concentrations. This enriched plasma can penetrate tissue up to four times more effectively than under normal conditions. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) delivers 10-30 times the normal oxygen supply while reducing inflammation. The increased tissue oxygenation prevents cell death caused by oxygen deprivation and stimulates the growth of new blood vessels, ultimately helping to restore normal blood flow to affected areas and modify disease progression.
Stem Cell Proliferation
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) significantly increases the mobilization of circulating stem cells in the body. Research published in the American Journal of Physiology - Heart and Circulatory Physiology demonstrates that a single 2-hour HBOT session at 2 atmospheres absolute (ATA) results in a twofold increase in circulating CD34+ progenitor stem cells, which are vital for tissue repair and regeneration. Furthermore, approximately 40 hours of HBOT treatment leads to an eightfold (800%) increase in these circulating cells.
